Living in Calgary for work is a great adventure, but coming home to a quiet house is what I find the hardest. I truly miss the energy, the personality, and the bond you only get with a dog.
Having raised three Setters from pups to seniors, I’m very comfortable with the 'real' side of dog care. I know how to handle high-energy breeds, dogs who follow their nose, or those who just need a patient friend. I am also a runner and would be more than happy to go for a run with your dog if they need to burn off extra energy!&nbsp;
My Approach &amp; Reliability:I take a very calm and observant approach, especially with shy or anxious dogs; I believe in letting them come to me at their own pace to build real trust. Having managed senior dogs, I am experienced in administering oral medications and strictly following medical or dietary routines. In case of an emergency, I am quick to react, highly organized, and will immediately contact you and your preferred vet while ensuring the dog stays calm.&nbsp;
House-Sitting &amp; Extra Care: My current apartment is a bit too small to host dogs comfortably, but I am more than happy to do house-sitting at your place! As a 'French touch', if you’re okay with it, I can even prepare a typical French "Petit Pot-au-Feu" for your dog (a healthy slow-cooked mix of lean meat and carrots) to make them feel extra loved while you're away.I’ll treat your dog with the same care and love I gave my own family dogs back home. I have experience volunteering at pawsitive match. A pet shelter. I work in the cats only, cleaning condos, litter, dishes, feeding and changing water bowls, etc. The cats at the shelter are shy, spicy, friendly, affectionate, an escapee, etc! I also used to foster cats and have two of my own so I understand how to work with cats. So I have worked with 4 cats in one home and don't have a maximum amount of how many cats I can cat sit.
I've cat-sat at a couple houses already. Mostly in the same area but I am perfectly fine with driving maximum 40 minutes away from where I live.
My schedule is a little challenging with being in second year of university but I'm always available in Calgary over winter break and most of summer.
I have experience with giving cats medication, mostly in pills, ear or eye drops, and syringes.

I've been loving animals since I can remember. Growing up, I was the go-to around the neighborhood for friends and loved ones who needed their pets looked after, and that's only continued into my adulthood. I have taken care of the furry friends of friends and strangers alike (cats, dogs, fish, salamanders), and my longest live-in sitting job was for a week and a half (for two high-energy schnauzer-doodle mixes).
I am a student at MRU, and the vast majority of my day is open for house visits or walks. I am available in the mornings, afternoons, evenings - essentially just whenever you need someone to pop in. I'm also available for overnight care on nights that I am not working at my library job. My husband takes care of the house and our cats whenever I'm watching pets overnight, so all is taken care of on that front.
I currently have two cats of my own - Seth and Astrid - and they are the lights of my life. I've also owned Guinea pigs, gerbils, hamsters, and geckos, so I'm well versed in the care of small animals. I have experience with disabled animals (one of my cats is deaf, so I understand alternative methods of communication with animals), and experience with behavioural issues or difficult personalities (my other cat has extreme anxiety around people, so we have had to adapt our lives in order to help her be comfortable.) I also have experience walking reactive dogs, though I would prefer not to unless I understand their personalities and triggers better.

Howdy! My name is Vanessa, I moved to Calgary in May 2022. I love the mountains, road trips, camping&nbsp; and outdoor activies. I live in Bankview with my boyfriend and our senior citizen dog. Her name is Lili, she's a 14 years old chihuahua-daschund. I have always loved animals and have had a few growing up, cats, hamster, rabbit and dogs.
Me and my boyfriend started cat sitting our neighbor's adorable 3 cats. We loved going there to feed them, play with them, hangout for a bit and clean their litter boxes. She moved away and we miss hanging out with the cats and taking care of them! That's why I decided to become a pet sitter with Pawshake.
