About Iris
Hi, I love cats and all the different and unique personalities they each have! I have two cats of my own (Husky and Cutie).
I adopted Cutie as a 14-yo senior cat, and he was 20lbs, well overweight with a bit of asthma. He is now at a happy and healthy weight of 10 lbs through activity and a raw diet.
Husky was given to me when he was just a kitten. He had a UTI when he was younger, and so I am familiar with the urinary SO diet, and symptoms to watch out for. He's 11 years now and hasn't had one since that first instance.
I also had a third senior cat (Sweetie) that was adopted with Cutie. Within the first few weeks, I noticed he drank a lot more and peed more than expected. After seeing the vet, he was diagnosed with stage 2 kidney disease. He has since passed away (Feb 2023) from kidney disease, but I gave him almost two quality years. He received subcutaneous fluids from me, as well as daily oral medications. He was a fussy eater and loved attention, so I would sit there for 20 minutes each meal just petting his forehead to keep encouraging him to eat.
I also kitty sat for my friend. Her cat had oral cancer so I ensured his food was nice and soft, and provided him with his painkillers daily.
I also recently started volunteering at the North Toronto Cat Rescue (March 2023). I really just care for the well-being of cats :)
I am experienced with:
- diets: urinary SO, kidney disease, overweight management, raw diet
- grazers (Sweetie), and binge eaters (Husky)
- I've also since trained Cutie to do tricks (sit, paw, up up [sits up on his hind legs], twirl, jump, [jump] down). He is very food and pet-incentivized.
- administering subcutaneous fluids (though I have only done so on my own cat), oral medications (though I was lucky that he was somewhat okay with eating it with the rest of his dry), oral painkiller via syringe (he was also super cooperative), and ear medication. If you're looking for this service, let's chat more about it.
I'm not great at naming cats, but I'll be sure to take good care of them!
