Animal Care Experience

(Dogs, cats, kittens, rabbits &amp; birds)

My love for animals began early. Growing up, my neighborhood best friend and I spent our childhood rescuing and caring for animals of all kinds — injured birds we rehabilitated and released, indoor and outdoor rabbits we lovingly raised (including hand-feeding orphaned newborns), and multiple litters of kittens from a local street cat. We found safe homes whenever possible and worked with humane organizations when needed.

As a teen and young adult, I regularly walked neighbors’ dogs (despite not having one of my own) and later house-sat for friends and pet owners, caring for their dogs, cats, and homes on countless occasions.

  

Foster Volunteer Experience

(Ottawa Humane Society – Dogs &amp; Cats)

For the past few years, I’ve volunteered as a foster parent with the Ottawa Humane Society, caring for dogs, puppies, cats, pregnant cats, and kittens for periods ranging from 2 - 8 weeks.

One of my most formative experiences was fostering&nbsp;eight dogs at once&nbsp;— seven energetic four-week-old puppies and their mother. When the mother developed mastitis and required emergency surgery, I managed her post-op care while carefully coordinating supervised bonding sessions with each puppy to protect her recovery. After that experience, caring for one dog feels wonderfully manageable 

I’ve also fostered a pregnant cat and assisted her during the live birth and early care of her five kittens for approx. 8 weeks, alongside several other unique and rewarding foster situations while also administrating medications and specialized care as needed.

  

Why I Do This (OHS &amp; Pawshake)

Volunteering and caring for animals and all living things has always been close to my heart — from animal care to building homes with Habitat for Humanity. After the pause brought on by COVID, I was encouraged to return to animal-focused volunteering. Later, while on a Habitat Global Village build in Brazil, a fellow volunteer introduced me to Pawshake — and it felt like a natural extension of what I already love doing.

This is not a side hustle or career for me — I care for animals&nbsp;because I genuinely enjoy their company, their personalities, and the joy of providing a calm, loving atmosphere.

My Home &amp; Environment

I live in a quiet, peaceful two-floor townhome condo filled with sunlight and greenery — a calm, serene retreat for your animal. I currently have no pets.

Ideally, I like to spend&nbsp;30-60 minutes min. with a dog in particular (after a morning drop-off)&nbsp;to settle in together, set up any items from the pet owner (e.g. dog bed, food set up), review any instructions and observe behaviour before heading to work.

  

Expectations for Dogs

You’re welcome to bring your dog’s bed, blanket, food, written care instructions, emergency contacts, toys, or any comfort items with your scent. 

  

Quality Over Quantity

I choose to only care for&nbsp;one animal at a time&nbsp;to ensure thoughtful, individualized attention and create a deeper bond throughout their stay. So, if you choose to select me again your animal is in a very familiar, loving, and comfortable back-up home. Exceptions are made only for multiple animals from the same household. Your animal can expect a warm welcome, personalized care, and a truly comfortable stay. I am attentive to individual needs - for example, if your pet is unsettled at night, I'll make sure they feel safe and supported, whether that means nearby companionship or adjusting sleeping arrangements for added comfort (e.g.. where we both sleep on a couch in the family room or by my bedside for added close proximity comfort).

Being a dog sitter is more than just a job—it's a commitment to making dogs feel loved, cared for and truly happy, even when you can't be there. For me, it's not just about my love for dogs, they've always been a constant happy presence in my life. The title "dog mom" feels just a true as "mom" because my two dogs are family and their happiness is my priority. I walk them every day—rain, shine and snow— because I know how important those moments are for their well-being. As a dog sitter, I bring that same dedication and care to every furry friend I work with. It's about giving both the dogs and owners peace of mind, knowing their beloved companion is in the hands of someone who truly understands their needs. From engaging walks to ensuring they're comfortable and content, every moment spent with a dog is an opportunity to build trust and share joy. I live with two teen kids and 2 cats.  The cats are vaccinated and grew up around dogs and one of them tends to become good pals with dogs who have become regulars! I have had a few large and medium breed dogs over the years. My stepmother is a registered breeder with the American Kennel Club and Canadian Kennel Club, so I grew up with many dogs and puppies around and loved helping take care of them. I have also always had a cat since childhood. I live in a townhome in Lowertown and can service the surrounding area for home visits.
The house has a small back yard that is completely fenced-in. I live near multiple good-sized parks including Parc Bordeleau, where dogs can go for walks and play. What I offer: I will visit your pet at your place or they can come to mine.  I will stop by to play with, feed, walk, and check on your pet, whatever you need. I can administer medication and have experience with forms of medication such as ear drops, antibiotics by mouth in liquid and pill form, etc. I have lots of experience in care and feeding of cats, dogs, fish, snakes and reptiles.
If you are interested in dog boarding I can take up to two dogs at a time from the same family and will walk them as many times as you wish as well as playing throughout the day.  Depending on the breed and their stamina, , the outdoor temperature, as well as the preferred number of walks per day, I usually go for walks of 45 minutes to an hour. For boarding - I am in an apartment in downtown Ottawa, but there are many walkable trails and grassy spots in my area, as well as a dog park a few minutes away! I am in a 2 bedroom apartment, so small/medium sized dogs may be the best fit, however I am open to a larger dog if there is a need.

Hello pet-owners! We are a young couple who loves dogs and have a lot of experience taking care of them. We also have taken care of cats, both in their own homes and our home.The reason we would like to do more dogsitting is because it turns out to go extremely well together with our dog. Even the more shy or dominant ones tend to lift up when being around her. She never causes any problems with other animals since she is small and rather submissive. Therefore we even see it as an advantage to take care of dogs together with our own one. Of course, in some cases this turns out to be impossible, in that case it is also possible to take care of your dog seperately (we're with two). Enough about our dog, let's say something about ourselves.Currently we work mostly from home and we expect that to stay like that the coming future. We have sufficient free time and therefore like to spend as much as possible time outside and go for walks.When inside, we enjoy the company of the animals and they can be guaranteed of fulltime attention during the whole day. We both grew up taking care of animals like cats, rabbits and mainly dogs. Especially dogs always know how to steal our hearts so dogsitting always stayed part of our lives. We have watched over very different kinds of dogs, from big labradors to small maltezers and everything in between.
