Top cities for house sitting in Canada

Are you going away but have a pet that prefers to stay in their own environment? Or perhaps you have a range of different animals and it’s not practical for you to organise for them to stay in different places? Then you might want to consider finding a Pawshake house sitter to come and stay at your West Hill home while you are away.

House sitting is a convenient and affordable option when you have multiple pets and also want your house to be securely looked after while you are away. Many of our pet sitters have very reasonable house sitting rates because they enjoy staying and exploring different local neighbourhoods like West Hill.

At Pawshake, we understand that trusting your home to a stranger can be a little daunting. So we’ve done all the hard work to ensure that your Pawshake house sitter is trustworthy and reliable. All our pet sitter profiles are checked individually by our dedicated trust and safety team and some house sitters also have their own police checks which they can share with you.

The best thing about engaging a Pawshake verified house sitter is that you can relax knowing that on top of being covered by The Pawshake Guarantee which includes veterinary coverage, so your pets are being cared for in a familiar environment and your West Hill home is also being looked after as well.

In addition to looking after your pets, most of our house sitters will happily help you by collecting your mail, taking out the bins, and watering your plants. Just make sure you discuss all your requirements with your chosen house sitter prior to booking.

Hi there! I'm Gabriel the Pet Whisperer.
I've been taking care of pets for their owners/parents, and training them since I was a child, but am new to this website.
I often travel, and am now a digital nomad, so I can't responsibly have pets of my own. I'm making up for it by being of service to you and your pets.
I have a world class (human) mental health and communication background, and have taught at a university level. I understand animal communication, and have a knack for building trust and bonding with animals.
Recently, a vicious pitbull - kidnapped as a puppy and forced to fight in underground arenas, who hates men especially, and can't leave the house without trying to murder anything that moves - stepped gingerly up onto my lap and kissed my face. This is a day in the life for me.
When I'm in the city I have been helping my fellow traveling friends to house sit, and have been walking and doing basic training with puppies since elementary school with treats, eye contact, and modified clicker(-free) training and behavioural conditioning.
I do not use punishment as a discipline tactic.
I can brush and clip nails, manage special diets, and deliver medicine if necessary. If they are on a schedule, please have it in writing, and sent by email. I will take photos to show completion of time-sensitive activities/routines, and stay in touch about any changes or challenges.
If my availability shows as open, it means I'm in town, and I can stay for just about any length of time. You may have to check in with me for bookings over a month.
Your home is sacred and I will treat it as such:
Beyond personal hygiene and cleanliness, you can expect basic upkeep and homemaking (my mother taught me well), and if your pet takes homemade meals I am, in fact, a chef fantastique.
If you have a garden - either outdoor or indoor you can count on my green thumb and passion for plants to keep your blooming bébés alive and thriving.
You want to feel secure when leaving your pet in the care of someone, and I can offer you that security and peace of mind if my availability is open.
Also, if they don't bring in the newspaper, I will!
I will regularly update you on the status of your home and pet. If you receive mail or visitors you can count at least a daily update. Or, if you prefer to be left alone or more frequently updated, that can be arranged too.
I'm a digital nomad so my schedule is flexible.
I am fit, and can take your pooch for runs, I can and do play, occasionally for hours, and definitely multiple times a day. I don't have a driver's license, so you may want to keep that in mind if you have appointments more than a 1hr walk away, or if your appointment isn't TTC accessible.
WiFi is non negotiable, and the password must be photographed and sent to me before you leave for your trip because I work from home, and any details regarding your internet service provider should be available, in case the internet goes down for more than a couple days, or at least accessible to you so you can send me the details. I can also supervise home care/construction, and/or let workers in and out, document their work and attendance, but I need to know if there will be noise to prepare my workday.
Any expenses such as food, medicine, grooming, or appointments must be paid for/ purchased in advance, or funds must be available for me to purchase. Receipts will be collected, and any additional fees paid out of pocket will be documented and must be reimbursed. We love good karma! All bookings are done through the site, and I don't take tips.
I always keep at least a few days' buffer after our booking in case your flight or gets cancelled or your travel plans change for whatever reason and you need me to stay longer. Standard rates apply, but I will be amenable to sudden changes in plans unless otherwise noted. I prefer to have a local emergency contact in case I can't get a hold of you, as well as the contact of your vet, and any home or pet service providers you anticipate might be involved in you or your pet's life while you are gone - all in writing and sent by email.
Check my posted schedule, and please reach out to me if you have any questions.
I look forward to loving your pet in your stead.
Warmly,
Gabriel

Hi there! I'm Dani. I'm living in Canada since last year and, as you can see, I love animals, specially dogs! I grew up surrounded by them and I'm really happy to say that, because It was the closest experience to friendship and love I could live when I was still a toddler. I don't have space in my place to receive, but I can walk with and visit your dogs/pets to take care of them if you need to work outside or travel, as if they were mine. i’m available everyday and here in Toronto GTA. Being a dedicated pet enthusiast for over 6 years, I'm a proud owner of two exquisite Sphynx cats that have brought immeasurable joy and affection into my life. My journey with them has not only deepened my understanding of the intrinsic needs of pets but has also reinforced the love and care they truly deserve. In addition to my own feline companions, I've had the privilege of hosting various dogs, with some even enjoying long-term stays, allowing me to gain diverse experience in canine care.

Every pet I have the pleasure of encountering quickly occupies a special place in my heart, essentially becoming an extended member of my family. This genuine passion for animals naturally weaves into my weekly routines. My part-time weekend job offers the flexibility I need, ensuring that I have substantial time during the weekdays to indulge in delightful dog walks, playful activities, and dedicated bonding time. Ensuring their comfort, safety, and overall happiness is, and always will be, my utmost priority.

I’ve always had a deep love for animals and truly enjoy getting to know both dogs and cats of every personality. As a UofT Life‑Science student, I look after pets in my spare time outside of classes. I’m patient and comfortable with all kinds of furry personalities, from shy, reserved kitties to energetic, playful pups. I will closely follow your pet’s daily routine and every one of your care instructions, whether that’s feeding, refreshing water, litter‑box cleaning, playtime, cuddles or administering medication. After every visit, I’ll send you lots of photos, plus detailed written updates about our interactions, so you will always know how your pet is doing and can feel fully at ease.
Your pet will get lots of gentle attention and affection from me. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. I always look forward to get to know one more little creature!

Hi I'm Yochi 🤎
I have experience caring for both dogs and cats of different breeds, sizes, and personalities. Over the years, I’ve helped with daily walks, feeding, playtime, and plenty of cuddles, always making sure each pet’s unique routine is followed. I pay close attention to their comfort and well-being, whether that means long walks for high-energy pups or quiet companionship for more laid-back pets.
I’ve always believed that pets bring out the purest kind of joy in our lives, and that’s what inspires me to be a pet sitter. Spending time with animals is a chance to create a safe, loving, and fun environment where they feel truly cared for. Whether you’re busy with work, traveling, or simply need an extra hand, I’m here to provide your pets with the safe, loving, and reliable companionship they deserve, so you can have peace of mind knowing they’re in good hands.

Hi! My name is Dhvani, and I am a reliable and caring pet sitter with hands-on experience raising both a German Shepherd and a Golden Retriever. Growing up with dogs has taught me the importance of patience, consistency, exercise, and affection in keeping pets happy, safe, and well-behaved.
I provide dog walking, pet sitting, feeding, playtime, and companionship. Walks are typically 30–60 minutes, depending on the dog’s age, energy level, and needs. I usually walk one dog at a time, or two dogs from the same household, to ensure full attention and safety. During outdoor walks, I stay alert at all times, avoid unsafe or crowded areas when needed, use secure leashes, and closely monitor the dog’s behavior and surroundings to prevent any risk.
I am comfortable caring for dogs of different sizes and temperaments, including energetic, shy, or anxious pets. I can also reinforce basic training and commands such as sit, stay, heel, and recall during walks to support good behavior and consistency.
I care for dogs, cats, and small pets, but I may not be the best fit for highly aggressive or extremely untrained dogs that may pose a safety risk during handling. I am better suited for pets that can respond to basic guidance or have manageable behavior patterns, especially during walks.
I adapt care based on each pet’s energy level providing active walks and playtime for high-energy dogs, and slower-paced, calm walks or gentle companionship for senior or low-energy pets. My home environment is clean, safe, and calm, with a pet-friendly setup designed for comfort and supervision.
I am available in the mornings through early afternoon, making me ideal for daytime care, walks, and check-ins while owners are at work or away.
In case of an emergency, I follow a clear step-by-step approach: first, I ensure the pet is in a safe position and remove them from any immediate danger. Then I assess the situation calmly, provide basic first aid if needed (only within safe limits), and contact the owner immediately with full details. If required, I will take the pet to the nearest veterinary clinic as per the owner’s instructions or emergency plan. I continue to stay with the pet until the situation is stable.
I always follow owner instructions carefully and provide regular updates and photos for peace of mind. I treat every pet with care, respect, and responsibility, as if they were my own.
