My name is David, I'm 43, and I live with my mother. I have lived with cats my whole life, and I love all animals. I have volunteered at cat shelters, and have cat sat for neighbours when needed.
In 2016, I converted my home into a "cat motel" with the company Urbantails. I hosted over 30 cats for 4 years and learned a lot about their personalities, different responsibilities in taking care of cats, and communicating with their owners. I took photos, reported in with the owners weekly, and corresponded with the owner of Urbantails regularly.
As for the cats, I hosted kittens and seniors, twins and troublemakers, and a whole variety of memorable characters that taught me how to really tune in with their wants and needs. I learned patience, responsibility, how to let go when the hosting period ended, and how to be young and playful again.
I moved into a different building in 2020 that does not allow pets, so have since been unable to continue hosting. I met my partner in 2023 who has a cat and this has re-kindled my affection for cats. I have recently decided to put myself out there and be in service where that might be needed.
While my experience with pets rests solely with cats so far, I have gotten to know a couple of dogs that belong to a friend. I haven't had the space to be able to take care of dogs, but I would if I could. They are just as lovable as cats but I find I really enjoy their more upbeat energy and would love the opportunity to spend more time with dogs.
