I am a retired letter carrier, so I am used to being outside. I have always had at least one cat in my life (we all know that with cats, it's their choice, not ours!) since I was two years old, but I love dogs just as much. I have only had three dogs (one after begging my parents for years, and she got me through my teen years into adulthood, one "for my kids" who turned out to be my guardian angel, and one who was the epitome of "you don't get the dog you want, you get the dog you need") because I love them so deeply that when they go, it takes time to commit to the next.
I can't see myself getting another one now, since my building only allows 2 pets per home, and we have a set of sister-felines who are currently ruling the roost, and have about 15 years (hopefully) to go! Being around other people's dogs gives me that "fix", to receive the genuine connection only a dog can provide. I admire the independence of cats, and they always seem to gravitate to me when we go to any cat "owner"'s home. I would be happy to care for any pet, as my own, if tasked with the responsibility. After leaving my first dog at a kennel for a summer holiday with my parents, her panicked reaction when we left her (I cried for hours on the drive), and frantic behaviour upon reunion, caused me to never do that to any subsequent pets. I always have someone take care of our pets in their own environment when we go away, and I would hope to offer the same peace of mind to anyone else.
Jf I could give Janice more than 5 stars I would. Janice went above and beyond all expectations. I could see that she truly cared for my cats like they were her own. Janice sent pictures on every visit and let me know exactly what the kitties were doing and any issues that came up. I would highly recommend her.
Janice is a very caring cat sitter. She communicated extremely well with us while we were gone and our concerns about being away from our darling cat were alleviated. We also loved that she sent pictures and short videos for each visit. You can tell that Janice really enjoyed and cared about our cat.
The only skills I have are the ones ingrained from 56 years of pet experience. I have cared for an ailing adopted mature dog, and built her a travel cart to help her enjoy the outside for longer... she was too tired with the long walk down the hall to the exterior of the building to enjoy any outside time, so if she rode for the first and last legs of the journey, she had all her strength to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors!
I am also currently volunteering with two community groups, Burnaby Citizens Support, and Burnaby Community Services, and have had RCMP background checks with them both.
