About Brenda

*I am fully booked for pet sitting until May 2023 and am currently not accepting new clients*

Hello! I hope everyone is staying safe while we navigate this new normal the pandemic has brought.

I am fully vaccinated and taking this ongoing pandemic seriously. I am very cautious about things and health and safety is my top priority for all. I stay home majority of the time, except to get groceries/supplies once a week or when I'm on dog walks.

I normally do a good clean before the end of the stay to make sure you are coming home to a fresh and clean home, and now during covid I add extra sanitation of all touched surfaces.

I have spent 10+ years working with animals from dog daycares in BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan, as well as being a vet assistant at vet clinics in BC and Alberta. I have the most experience working with dogs, especially fearful, timid, and anxious dogs, as well as dogs that are not dog or stranger friendly. I have also loved getting to take care of cats and have become a huge cat lover over the last few years. I have looked after a snake, turtles, lizards, and rabbits. I love all animals and am not afraid to get slobbered on, or have all my clothes covered in fur.

If your pet is diabetic or on any medication, I am trained and able to administer any medication needed. I have post-surgical care experience, basic grooming skills, nail clipping (on willing dogs), wrinkle and ear cleaning, among many other skills. I use positive training techniques with all the animals I work with and carry a pet first aid kit on all walks, as well as water and a water bowl in the summer. Animals are very reactive to energy, so I consciously work to stay calm and am mindful of the animal’s energy to better help the pets needs, and I can read dogs body language very well.

I have a second business making paracord collars and leashes (Knot Your Average), and during the summer I am at the St. Albert Farmers Market on some Saturday from around 630am-430pm. Otherwise I have a very flexible schedule and can accommodate pets that need a lot of care since pet sitting is my full time job.

After spending two years living in a self-converted camper van I am now living in a condo in Mill Woods. I have no pets of my own but I've become a house plant addict and have accumulated over 100 potted plants which I go home to water once a week. I love spending nice days outside reading or exploring the neighbourhood, and other days I like to work on a new craft or puzzle.

Most week days I have dog walks scheduled, usually 1 or 2 per day, and I can be gone for 2-4 hours in the afternoon. Otherwise I stay home with the pet and will give them all the belly rubs, butt scratches, play sessions, or long walks that they desire. (or alone time if that's what they want. haha)

I have some anxiety and always plan / prepare for worst case scenario and I've never been in a situation I couldn't handle. Until the dog and I trust each other, and we're both comfortable in the space, I keep a close eye on them even in their own backyard. I walk a lot of reactive dogs so I am in the habit of crossing the street if another dog is headed our way and I am constantly on alert for other dogs or triggers. I don't go to off leash dog parks unless the dog is used to it, has all their vaccinations and tags, and it is requested by the owner. I know how quickly things can go bad when a dog eats something they shouldn't, so on walks I am extremely attentive to the dogs and have my eyes on them to make sure they are just sniffing and not munching on something.

If it's nice out I love going for long walks or hang out in the yard. My day is fairly flexible, I just have dog walks in the afternoon, so I can accommodate whatever daily routine your pet(s) are used to.

Pet sitting is my full time job and my prices are in line with my skills, experience, training, and level of care and attention I provide, as well as taking into account the fees that Pawshake takes.

I do my best to send updates and pictures at least once a day, but sometimes I can forget (hello ADHD) so please feel free to message me and ask for updates and pictures as much as you'd like. I completely understand how nerve racking it can be leaving your pet with someone new and I want to do whatever I can to help ease the anxiety.

Please reach out with any questions you might have about me or my services.

Thanks so much for reading my profile!

House Sitting
David, 2023-01-16

Brenda is an excellent pet and house sitter. She looked after our bullmastiff and our house for more than two weeks over Christmas and New Years, and came home to a happy and healthy dog and a clean house. Brenda sent us many pictures of Gus while we were gone, was able to help when our return flight was cancelled, and always was prompt in replying to any and all questions we had. We will definitely be using Brenda's services again and again and again. You simply cannot ask for a better sitter!

This was the first time Brenda took care of our two dogs. Hopefully it won’t be the last!

We have two somewhat hi maintenance and somewhat pampered terriers. One is just over a year and full of energy . She quickly learned their very different personalities and their routines . We could tell from the many pictures she sent that they were both very comfortable and content with her. She stayed at our place and the house was spotless when we arrived. We highly recommend her and will most definately have her look after our house and more importantly our dogs again .

Thanks Brenda !!!!!
